Victor Osimhen’s cryptic message fuels Chelsea transfer rumours

Napoli striker Victor Osimhen has sparked a frenzy among Chelsea fans with a cryptic social media message that suggests he could be open to a move to Stamford Bridge.

The 24-year-old Nigerian, who scored 31 goals in all competitions last season, posted a video on his Instagram story on Monday, showing him wearing a Chelsea shirt with his name and number 9 on the back.

The video, which was captioned “soon”, has since been deleted, but not before it was widely shared and commented on by Chelsea supporters, who are eager to see their club sign a world-class forward.

Osimhen, who joined Napoli from Lille in 2020 for a club-record fee of €70 million, has been linked with a move away from the Serie A champions in recent months, with Chelsea and Manchester United reportedly interested in his services.

However, Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis has insisted that Osimhen is not for sale and has recently signed a contract extension until 2026, with a release clause of over £100 million.

Osimhen has also expressed his happiness at Napoli and his desire to win more trophies with the club, saying he is “addicted” to success.

“I am very happy here, I have a great relationship with the coach, the president and the fans,” he said in an interview with Sky Sport Italia.

“I want to keep improving and help the team achieve their goals. I am addicted to winning trophies and I want to do that with Napoli.”

However, some reports suggest that Osimhen could still leave Napoli in the summer of 2024, when his release clause will drop to £80 million.

Chelsea, who are currently second in the Premier League, are looking to strengthen their attack, as they have struggled to score goals this season, with Timo Werner, Romelu Lukaku and Kai Havertz all underperforming.

The Blues are confident that Osimhen wants to join them and are ready to make him their primary target when they enter the market for a striker.

Osimhen, who has 15 goals in 32 appearances for Nigeria, is regarded as one of the best young strikers in Europe, with his pace, power, movement and finishing ability.

He has also shown his versatility, as he can play as a lone striker, a second striker or a winger.

Osimhen’s cryptic message has added fuel to the fire of the transfer rumours, but whether he will actually join Chelsea remains to be seen.
